Incepem cu nota: 10. Ar fi o porcarie ca acest album sa primeasca un 9,5, sau 9,8 iar cine-i da 9,9 ar trebui spanzurat pentru rea-credinta. Ca om batran, pot numi doar cateva albume la nivelul acestuia: FSOL - “Dead Cities”, Massive Attack - “Blue Lines”, Aphex Twin - “Selected Ambient Works”, Tortoise - “Millions Now Living Will Never Die”… E munca de pionierat ce face omul asta, si asta intr-o scena care, dominata de usurinta accesului la informatie, se autocopiaza la culme.
Burial e un tip sincer. Cvasi-necunoscut ca persoana fizica, sunt cateva interviuri pe net care au facut in acest an cateva milioane de hit-uri. Si, in toate aceste interviuri, se releva acelasi om: simplu, limbaj limitat, idei putine si fixe. Dezvoltat dintr-un simplu fan al scenei timpurii de d’n'b, purist al underground-ului “keep it reel”, dezamagit de evolutia ulterioara a scenei. Idolii sai au capatat nume si fete, s-au retras in studiouri sofisticate, au plecat urechea la public si publicul i-a integrat in mainstream. Din cate declara, Burial nu se considera muzician. Este complexat de programele destepte de facut muzici destepte, butoanele il sperie si proficienta i se pare inutila. Soundforge si un grafic ce seamana cu o coloana vertebrala de peste par a fi indeajuns. Si sunt indeajuns. Sunt indeajuns pentru un sunet spart, prost, defect, disonant si dezechilibrat. Trist peste masura, vulgar in limitari si imperfectiune. Ableton?.. Unde esti?… VST-uri si librarii savante?… Rewire?… Ntz. Soundforge plus un os de peste. The beatz. Those drums. Ritmurile bantuie, malign si stirb. Sincope inacceptabile. Goliciune. Iar vocile… Ati ascultat “Dead Cities” - Future Sound Of London?… Burial este actualul sunet al Londrei. Si Londra - dupa Burial, cronicar resemnat - este urata. Burial este un om care vorbeste prost si se repeta. Dar el stie asta si ne canta. Ne canta esecurile, ne canta viata, ne canta scena, ne canta Londra. Si cronicarul si-a ales ca limba dub-step-ul. Limba pe intelesul semenilor sai londonezi.
In ciuda faptului ca Burial nu canta, nu mixeaza, nu se promoveaza, nu apare concentrat in spatele butoanelor, NU exista, albumul a primit recenzii incredibile in media de peste tot. E unul din putinele albume care nu lasa loc de “mai bine”, care se cere recenzat si recomandat. Aruncat pe messenger, “Cum suna Archangel aia…” Fara indoiala, Burial va fi responsabil, prin greutatea si consistenta produsului sau, de integrarea dub-stepului in playlistul indie global, in aparitia de mii de clone si de mixuri. Sunt neincrezator in aparitia unui alt album dub-step la fel de bun. Nici Burial nu si-a dorit sa scoata un album atat de consistent, greu si profund. Omul a vrut sa auda din nou those drums. Nu le mai auzea in ceea ce se creeaza acum, si si le-a facut singur.

Nu sunt prea multe de zis despre muzica. Nu se cere vorbita si nici macar ascultata. Si cum din recenzia asta nu va veti face nici cea mai mica idee despre “Untrue”, cumparati-l, sau, daca nu va e la indemana, descarcati-l de pe net. It’s a must. [10,0]

We just finished up tour about two weeks ago from a two month tour with Gallows and Blackhole in the UK and Underoath, Every Time I Die and Maylene and the Sons of Disaster in the US. It was really an awesome time and a great way to close out the year for us!

Partea I – scurta introducere

Pe data de 23 octombrie 2007, presa de pretutindeni a consemnat sec o stire. Vom cita de pe site-ul BBC :
“A Teesside man arrested in connection with a hugely-popular website providing music for illegal downloads has been released on police bail.
Officers questioned the 24-year-old on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and infringement of copyright after raiding a flat in Middlesbrough’s Grange Road. His arrest was part of an Interpol-led inquiry into the website OiNK, which was closed by police on Tuesday. The home of the IT worker’s father, in Greater Manchester, was also searched. Officers seized computer equipment and documents from the Cheadle property, as well as from the 24-year-old’s employer - a large multi-national company based on Teesside. Raids were also carried out in Amsterdam, where the website’s servers are based. The arrest followed a two-year investigation by music industry bodies the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) and the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). The IFPI said the site had leaked 60 major pre-release albums this year alone. Cleveland Police said the man had been released on bail while seized equipment was examined and further inquiries were carried out.”

Middlesbrough, England – OiNK, reportedly one of the world’s largest sources of pre-release pirated music according to Breitbart, was shut down yesterday by British and Dutch police. The site had a reputation for distributing music weeks ahead of the official launch, with 60 such albums being released online this year.

OiNK, run by an unnamed 24-year-old in northeast England town Middlesbrough, had approximately 180,000 members. To join one had to prove they had music to offer, and were required to continuously post music to maintain membership, said the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). The site’s Amsterdam-based servers were seized last week.

Two organizations had spent two years investigating OiNK, the British Phonographic Industry and the IFPI. “OiNK was central to the illegal distribution of pre-release music online,” said Jeremy Banks, head of IFPI’s Internet anti-piracy unit. “This was not a case of friends sharing music for pleasure. This was a worldwide network that got hold of music they did not own the rights to and posted it online.”

Declaratia de mai sus este simbolul prapastiei intre industria muzicala si target-ul acesteia: ascultatorii si cumparatorii de muzica. Domnul Banks, in mod clar, nu are nici cea mai mica idee despre ce vorbeste. OiNK NU a fost un «centru » al distribuitiei ilegale de muzica – a fost doar o componenta a unui trend major al ultimilor ani : distributia ilegala de muzica pe internet. OiNK A FOST un grup de indivizi, nu neaparat prieteni – care partajau muzica pentru 1. Propria placere, 2. Pentru «prestigiu » in randul comunitatii, 3. Datorita faptului ca erau constienti ca partajand vor avea la randu-le acces la din ce in ce mai multa muzica. OiNK NU si-a insusit muzica ce nu-i apartine si nu a partajat-o on-line. Fara utilizatorii sai, acest tracker nu ar fi existat. Zombi vor reedita primele doua EP-uri - “Zombi” si “Twilight Sentinel” sub forma unui album denumit “Zombi Anthology”. “Digitalis”, celalalt produs marca Zombi ce este supus reeditarii este tot un EP, aparut initial sub forma unui tour-only EP. Sample-uri audio - unde altundeva decat pe pagina de MySpace a trupei.

Zombi vor incepe in acest weekend primul lor turneu japonez, alaturi de Jesu. Baietii nu au stat degeaba pana acum, piesele pentru noul album fiind scrise, iar intrarea in studio se va produceundeva in decembrie, albumul urmand sa apara in primavara anului viitor.

Cine sunt Zombi?… Doi americani pasionati in egala masura de science fiction si de progul anilor ‘70. Una din cele mai ciudate prezente din catalogul Relapse, au scos in 2006 primul album, “Surface To Air”, un mix bizar de new-age si post prog, totul condimentat cu clape ce ne aduc aminte de anii ‘80… Desi sunetul in sine este cumva demodat (da, demodat, nu “retro”!) baietii au reusit sa reinterpreteze o epoca (auzim Magma, Floyd, Tangerine Dream, Jarre) sa o dezintegreze si sa o reconstruiasca in spiritul timpului… De ascultat.

Pentru cititorii nostri tineri si avizi de informatie: Jarboe e o tanti super-mega neconventionala, care, alaturi de Michael Gira si al lor proiect The Swans erau prezente sine-qua-non in alcatuirea unei colectii seriose de muzica in casa oricarui punker fin intelectual (eventual nostalgic si trecut de 30 de ani). Asta se intampla in anii ‘90, iar timpul trece. Michael Gira s-a reprofilat un pic, atmosfera dark din muzica sa a fost eventual inlocuita de folkul psihedelic promovat de labelul sau Young God Records (Angels of Light is a fuckin’ must!). Jarboe si-a continuat - cu un succes relativ - cariera solo. O regasim alaturi de Neurosis, A Perfect Circle, Lustmord sau… Jesu, pe ultimul album al acestora, “Lifeline” (Hydra Head, 2007).

Colaborare de bun augur se pare, tinand cont de faptul ca Jarboe si Justin - nu, nu ala! - ci Justin K Broadrick de la Jesu (ex. Napam Death!, membru fondator Godflesh etc. etc.) si-au propus sa extinda colaborarea sub forma unui nou proiect - J2 (J+J) (inca o data - NU Janet + Justin!).

Casa de discuri The End Records s-a aratat interesata de noul proiect si l-a integrat in proiectele sale de viitor. Vom avea asadar album J2 in primavara 2008.
