Peppermill Records este un netlabel, specializat in albume colaborative - sau compilatii. Semnalam ultimul lor produs - un cvadruplu LP intitulat 52 weeks project. Citam de pe pagina Peppermill:

“For our first project we did 30 artists in 30 days… now we tried 52 artists in 52 weeks, divided up into four parts. Those of course being Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.

The first artist started on the 21st of December, the first day of Winter which also happens to be the Solstice. They borrowed a headline out of that week’s news as the title to their 2-3 minute song and then had 7 days to complete it before they passed their creation on to the next artist, who continued where they had left off.

We had some amazing musicians that took part. Winter was all over the map, stylistically, while Spring was much more acoustic, with real instruments and voices and such… Summer on the other hand was faster, harder, very rhythmic… and then Fall was a combination of things. Overall we’re very happy with the result of this year-long experiment, and we hope you enjoy it as well.”

So - avem o multitudine de artisti de prima marime - se remarca Wisp, Ceschi, Jason Forrest, Duran Duran Duran… - fiecare preluand stafeta de la predecesorul sau din playlist. Un experiment interesant, avem si un roman in lista - Candlestickmaker - care si-a lasat piesa pe mainile lui Wisp . Rezultatul?…. aici!

Experimentul Peppermill este remarcabil, 2 ore si 24 de minute de reverie electronica… Inca o dovada ca netlabelurile scot productii de calitate similara labelurilor “clasice”….

Compilatia de la The Silent Ballet impreuna cu Lost Children Net Label a ajuns la Volumul VII: “Winter 2008″. Acesta este concentrata aproape in totalitate asupra proiectelor solo si a colaborarilor duo.

Uaaaaa…. Heaven Shall Burn. Iconoclast Part 1.

Amicilor mei nu le place Heaven Shall Burn. Ma rog, unora dintre ei. Detaliez. Am o sumedenie de amici, cei mai multi din ei ascultatori avizati de muzici diverse. O parte dintre ei asculta, evident (si) metal. O parte din cei care asculta si metal asculta si hardcore. Altii asculta doar metal, si nu asculta hardcore. Cei care asculta si hardcore, se arata dezgustati de Heaven Shall Burn. Cei care nu prea asculta hardcore s-au declarat placut impresionati de Heaven Shall Burn. Hmm… Poate ca cei care asculta hardcore asculta si post rock si indie, iar proficienta seaca nu prea ii atrage. Ii plictiseste mai degraba. Iar eu nu mai pricep nimic. Mie imi place Heaven Shall Burn si am descoperit - mea culpa… - zilele trecute o trupa pe nume The Secret - niste italieni care canta (post?)hardcore. Si imi plac si The Secret, cum imi place si Heaven Shall Burn. Ma rog, nu in acelasi fel, sunt doua felii diferite. Dar imi plac ambele trupe. Heaven Shall Burn nu are nici o legatura cu The Secret, deloc deloc. In acest context mirobolant, ma intreb totusi de ce amicii mei nu pot fi ca mine, sa le placa si The Secret si Heaven Shall Burn. Pentru ca Heaven Shall Burn nu sunt nici Soilwork, nici In Flames. Prietenii mei mi-ar putea reprosa, in cor: “Da, nu sunt!… Ascultam fiecare nou Soilwork sau In Flames sa vedem daca albumul cel nou este mai slab decat precedentul, si, cand avem dreptate, zicem: <<Uuuu… nasoooool…>>… Pe cand Heaven Shall Burn…”

Ei bine, dragi amici, care e problema cu Heaven Shall Burn?… Poate cineva sa ma lumineze?… Pentru ca mie, personal, mi se pare unul din cele mai bune albume ale anului. Da, stiu, Lamb Of God nu mai sunt ce erau acum 4 ani, iar wall of death se pare ca a devenit un zbucium la fel de lipsit de substanta ca o gheata Nike, dar va rog, este vorba de un album excelent. Sunteti nedrepti!… Nici macar nu ati facut efortul sa-l duceti la capat. Da, ati ascultat mii de breakdown-uri si milioane de riffuri provenind din Gothenburg si suburbii - dar v-ati saturat de ele taman acum?? Da, e adevarat, “Iconoclast…” nu aduce nimic nou dar de cand originalitatea este criteriul sine-qua non in aprecierea calitatii unui produs? Eu unul am dat o sansa HSB iar baietii m-au rasplatit - am gasit un teritoriu familiar si sigur.

Ultimul Heaven Shall Burn este proficienta intruchipata. Scris ca la carte - imbina perfect elementele metalului modern si brutal, varietatea atent calculata nu lasa loc de plictis pana la ultima piesa. Avem si o preluare - excelenta de altminteri - Edge Of Sanity “Black Tears” si piesa finala - da, instrumentala, “Atonement”. In virtutea proficientei - snob cuvant, ah, manualele de marketing! - baietii au presarat bijuterii metalice in fiecare piesa, dupa reteta: productie perfecta, melodie (da, tipul de melodie intalnita si pe “Antigone”, dar mult mai matura acum), rrrifurrrri rrrrrapide, blasturi nimicitoare si subtilitati exaltante.

Dar, scriu, scriu si indoiala ma apasa. Albumul suna bine dar… dar… Un [7,7] care nu penalizeaza truda baietilor ci genul in fine. Sunt prea multe “produse” bune care suna sensibil la fel. Luati si ascultati-l. Va veti trezi aruncand pumnii in dusmanii imaginari, pulsul se va accelera si adrenalina va pulsa prin vene. Din pacate, oricare din amicii mei pot enunta inca 50 de albume care instiga la fix aceleasi reactii.

Sound Of Color este un proiect care a unit niste artisti si regizori, rezultatul colaborarii concretizandu-se in cinci melodii cu videoclipuri, fiecare pentru o anumita culoare. Acest proiect a pus cate o culoare alaturi de The Raveonettes, Dntel, The Blakes, Marie Digby si Swizz Beatz, impreuna cu cate unul din regizorii Russ Lamoureux, Ryan Ebner si Chris Do, rezultand in cinci videoclipuri care le puteti vedea aici, alaturi de mai multe detalii despre proiect.

36 Crazyfists pregatesc un EP nou pentru 19 Aprilie, intitulat „The Oculus EP”. Acesta vine ca un precursor al albumului intreg, „The Tide And Its Takers”, cu o data a lansarii stabilita de Ferret Music pentru 27 Mai.

So last week we were getting all excitable about all the album and EP-ness. I think this week we’re about to explode in a very positive, non-sexual way.

The plan was- let’s write and demo an EP before mid-Feb. ‘That would be rad’ we thought to ourselves. And that WOULD have been rad…

INSTEAD we’ve gone and bloody wrote and demoed almost half an album already!And it’s only bloody January. Actually it’s the first day of February but you know what I mean, don’t be pedantic (official FFAF word of the day).
So, in anticipation of some of your questions and judging by the songs we’ve got down so far- here’s a little mini FAQ

Q: Does it sound more like Tales, Hours or Casually Dressed?
A: It sounds very different to all of those records. For an overall “vibe” it’s closer to Casually Dressed than anything- just taken a lot further.
Q: Will it be heavier than Tales?
A: Yes
Q: Will it be as technical as ‘7 Ways’/ Casually Dressed/Hours?
A: No, it’s much tastier than that.
Q. Will there be more riffs?
A. Yep
Q. Aggressive vocals?
A. Yep
Q. Will it be another concept album?
A. Nope

Videoclipul nou Dillinger Escape Plan: “Milk Lizard“

Un stream la intregul, ultim, mult-asteptat album Mars Volta, “The Bedlam In Goliath” se poate gasi aici . Albumul apare in magazine pe 29 ianuarie.

Nu am mai scris de mult, si, wow! cate ni s-au asezat pe umeri, parca trebuia sa le postam odata si odata, desi sub forma unui mini-flood.

Incepem cu un preview la albumul solo al lui Jake Bannon de la Converge! Va fi un 7inch EP de fapt, intitulat “The Blood Of Thine Enemies”. EP-ul vine ca un precursor al full-length-ului “Wear Your Wounds”, a carui lansare nu a fost inca stabilita. Asteptam, Deathwish!

M83 au postat noul single de pe urmatorul album “Saturdays = Youth”, cu lansarea in aprilie. “Couleurs“

De pe 29 ianuarie apare ultimul Xiu Xiu: “Women As Lovers”, puteti gasi un stream la intregul album pe pagina lor de Myspace, si primul videoclip la “I Do What I Want, When I Want” pe youtube.

The reasons for my departure are personal and I’d like them to stay that way. My work in DHG and on Supervillain has been a labour of love but, unfortunately, love, as Bukowski once said, can often be “like trying to carry a full garbage can on your back over a rushing river of piss.” I can only thank the rest of the band, especially Vicotnik and the fans, for their total support and dedication and for some of the best years of my life. As a fan of the band since I was young, I will continue to support DHG and I hope that you will do the same.

Auuuuu… Metallica. Cica noul album “nu va fi atat de unidimensional ca St. Anger”. Il citam pe Lars U., in Revolver Magazine:

“This stuff is certainly a lot more dynamic and a lot more varied than the last couple of go-rounds,” [...] “There’s a lot of light and shade in these songs. There’s heavy, fast, nutty stuff, and then there’s some slowdowns and musical interludes. It’s pretty different from ‘St. Anger’, and it’s pretty different from the ‘Load’ stuff. This stuff is not the one-dimensional punch in the face that ‘St. Anger’ was. This is probably a little more like those couple of albums back there in the decade that begins with an ‘8.’”

Ar fi chiar ok ca Metallica + Rick Rubin = back to the roots. “Trash till die” e iar pe val, si pentru Warner asta conteaza cel mai mult.

E deja 2008, si noutatile apar cu o viteza demna de un crawler, nu de doi ametiti ca noi. Ne-am zbatut, am amanat, ne-am ciondanit, am cerut sfatul amicilor si, in cele din urma, am compilat un fel de top al albumelor aparute in 2007 care s-au insinuat persistent in playlisturile noastre. Nu e un top bazat pe pozitii ci vom arunca albumele in ordinea in care ne vin in cap si pe mail.

Asadar: The absolute winner - Burial - Untrue [Hyperdub Rec.] - Overhyped, iubit, detestat, tot tacamul la un asemenea produs. Dincolo de recenzii si controverse - e un album seminal, ce va fi ascultat si peste 3, 5 sau 10 ani.

Postrockul e mainstream in 2007. Si se vede in top. Metalcore-ul a murit, long live the metal! Prog?… Think again!
